Rhue Peninsular 25th April 2021

Put in at Rhumach

An amazing 14 members out today on the trip from Arisaig, South round the Rhue peninsula to Eilean a’ Ghaill. To ease parking problems we launched from two locations along the Rhue road.

A sunny day was forecast and so it proved to be. We paddled in calm water round Rubh Arisaig and South to Port nam Murrach beach, unfortunately this was occupied by another group – with some swimming in the water, so we continued on to Port a’ Bhathaich before stopping for a short break. We then paddled on via the trio of little islands, Eilean an t-Snidhe to Eilean a’ Ghaill. Landing here we summitted the 23m peak with Iain heroically dashing back to rescue one of the boats about to drift off from the shore. Then it was over to the beach on the mainland for a leisurely lunch.

The water was somewhat more choppy on the way back, but the higher tide allowed for some interesting rock hopping. A quick trip round the Arisaig skerries then back to the cars at the separate launch sites. Martine brewed up coffee for one of the groups and we chatted in the sun to round off a great day.
