After a stunning drive over Ratagan Pass seven of us arrived in good time Bernera Beach near Glenelg – Steve, Pete, Martine, Ken and Liz, plus two new members Phill and Heather. Plenty of parking at this beach, but for future reference, there is a height barrier now.
Our ferry gliding training soon came into play as we met the tidal stream on crossing Kyle Rhea – but fortunately it was not as fierce as Corran Narrows. We disturbed some seals sunbathing on the skerries off Kylerhea.
With sunshine setting in for the day we paddled down to Port Aslaig for first lunch. On leaving here we briefly sighted 2 porpoises as we paddled across to the Sandaig Islands.
At Sandaig we landed in the bay and explored the Gavin Maxwell and Edal (the otter) memorials. It is a beautiful spot.
The wind assisted our return paddle back to Glenelg. Where we had coffee and a chat on the beach before heading home.
Another superb day out – calm water, glorious sunshine and sparkling visibility.
